Development
[edit]This article is currently being developped. I am translating the family history dating back to 1290 from Ottoman (by the help of my grandfather) to Turkish and from Turkish to English. Whenever I have time I will add details especially about the conquest of Rumelia, Thrace and Balkans in 14th and 15th century by Ottomans. -Cansın 23.27, 22 May 2005 (UTC)
The -os suffix of Evrenos
[edit]I have removed the section on the “-os” suffix added to the Gazi’s name until a reference can be adduced. “Evrenos” sounds to me like a predictable Greek version of the Turkish name ‘’Evren.’’ Moreover, the Oxford Dictionary of Byzantium states that the Greeks did not have such affection for Evrenos Bey, Manual II going so far as to complain of his cruelty and “unrivaled” hatred for Christians. Still, I seem to remember having read about this somewhere before. From where does this assertion come? Aramgar 03:28, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
Hi Aramgar; I am a member of this family and currently I am in contact with two historians (one Greek and other Turkish) who are studying Evrenosoglu family. When I started compiling this entry I had limited knowledge. So what you said and did about -os suffix is OK with me. This assertion doesn't come from a written reliable source. I haven't touched this entry for so long, when I have time I will give more detailed information using the references I was and I am still being provided these historian friends. Thanks for your interest and your sensitive painting ;) - Cansın 02 October 2007 —Preceding signed but undated comment was added at 00:45, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
The methuselan span of Gazi Evrenos
[edit]It seems that two Evrenosoğulları have been conflated. It defies credulity that even so robust a figure as our Gazi survived 129 years. The Encyclopedia of Islam suggests the same. Thirty-three generations of Evrenosoğulları lived in Yenice Vardar and who knows how many in Balıkesir. Our Evrenos, at the very least, was active between the years 1359 and 1417. We don't have enough information about his exact birth year, but as you mentioned it is highly possible that there are two persons merged into one personality...I will check this out...Cansın 02 October 2007 —Preceding signed but undated comment was added at 00:47, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
Ethnicity
[edit]Prof. Heath Lowry found his original foundation certificate charter, and there it is indicated he is from a serbian royal family. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2604:6000:140D:E08B:B897:C983:9E37:3288 (talk) 18:22, 15 December 2013 (UTC)
